Portrait Painting Commission — Hand-Painted Oil on Canvas (Single Subject)

I asked Richard to make of piece for a birthday gift. He & I discussed what colors & what image would work best for this present. What he produced was absolutely outstanding--his use of color & the depth of the paints truly produced something moving from the gaze of the subject to the background; the art is exceptional & speaks to the viewer directly. I am so grateful for Richard's talents & will surely be reaching out again for another piece of art. Plus, you can add to all that: he is a lovely human.

Great job! Love the painting!

Richards work is vivid and strong and this painting of a defiant David Bowie is no exception. Working from a stark photograph taken towards the end of his life, the use of bold colour has a brightening effect.

Nevertheless, Richard captures the penetrating gaze and that is definitely not a smile, which is exactly what I'd hoped for.

I am thrilled with his work and the process of deciding what to use as a basis for the painting and how to treat it was great.
