Dylan changed what a song could be. He arrived as a folk singer and left the category behind — plugging in at Newport, writing verse that read like literature, and eventually collecting a Nobel Prize for it. The face has been photographed a million times and still gives nothing away, which is exactly what makes it worth painting.
