Cohen spent a lifetime finding the sacred inside the broken — the crack where the light gets in, as he put it. Hallelujah took him years to write and will outlast everything. This portrait tries to hold that same quality: patient, layered, a face built from accumulated marks the way Cohen built songs from accumulated losses. It's not a cheerful painting. It's better than that.
